Summary - Job Responsibilities – Activities:


Position Summary: Performs MIG, TIG, and Stick welding operations, including brazing and Heli arc, on a wide range of materials and alloys. Works with minimal supervision. When not welding, the Welder will be support to the Mechanical Fabrication group to fabricate metal, steel brackets, and copper buss bar, as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Certified in MIG Welding, also known as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), for ASTM A36 Carbon Structural Steel.Welding positions: groove 1G & 2G - flat and horizontal. Fillets: 1F & 2F - flat and horizontal. 3G -Vertical (upward), 4G overhead.
  • Certified for TIG welding, also known as GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) to work with 6061 aluminum. Welding positions: groove 1G & 2G - flat and horizontal. Fillets: 1F & 2F - flat and horizontal.
  • Use knowledge of welding strength and pressure requirements to weld complete cabinets and structures working from the most complex blue prints and specifications.
  • Provide support to Transformer and Rectifier areas in the fabrication of copper buss bar, as needed.
  • Uses various shop tools and machinery including but not limited to iron worker, stripit, press brake, shear, drills, grinders, sanders, punches, cutters shears, power saws, drill presses and other hand tools. Required to assemble heavy cables and use lug presses.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Meets budget/labor hours on jobs/tasks to adhere to the production schedule without compromising workmanship.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by management, which may include mechanical assembly.
 
Education - Experience:
  • HS diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment including direct experience as a welder.
 
Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:

Essential Functions:
  • Must be able to layout and improve designs through knowledge and experience while fully understanding welding equipment, including regulating voltage and current for proper penetration and fusion of metals.
  • Must be an expert with torches and other cutting related equipment, i.e. plasma, gouging and other related cutting tools.
  • Must be able to drive a forklift and use other lifting devices.
  • Able to obtain governmental certification.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and stand/walk throughout the day approximately 95% of the time, and bend/kneel and adjust to awkward positions for access to unit spaces as needed.
  • Climb ladders as needed (using Proper PPE fall arrest system)
  • Must wear all Welding PPE, (i.e. face shield, gloves, jacket, apron, etc.)
  • May be exposed to heat in the summer: high temp/humidity + PPE + Welding.
