Title: Shipping Clerk/ Materials Handler


Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Logistics and Inventory Supervisor, the Shipping Clerk/Materials Handler will spend 50% of time handling materials and 50% of the time in the shipping department. Percentages can vary weekly dependent on volume in each department. The Shipping Clerk/Materials Handler is responsible for building crates for products to be shipped in. Ensures that all packing slips, UL stickers, nametags etc., are in place. Materials Handler is also responsible for assisting departments in moving/ transporting equipment for all departments.


Crates and boxes all types of equipment and parts shipped from plant. Makes decisions as to types of crates to be made using information provided by BOMs, Engineer, Shipping Manager, or upper Management instructions.

Operates various power and hand tools. Weigh and tag products.

Loads and unloads trucks using forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, overhead hoists, and other methods of lifting.

Assists all department in the moving or transportation of units or equipment throughout the plant when directed.

Responsible for prioritizing and routing of units to the proper trucks, loading placement, and the dispatching of all paperwork.

 Order materials such as lumber, nails, staples, tape, plastic, boxes, wraps, labels, screws etc.

Ensure that all products leaving plant are in good condition and have correct packing slip information. Ensure that all legends, nametags, UL stickers (etc) are in place as required.

Keeps crating area clean and orderly.

Complete paperwork when needed.

Prepare bill of lading and pack list for common carrier trucks when trained.

Receive, label, and stock materials.

Organize and maintain wire rack and copper.




Must be an expert in building all types of crates including export crates.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and stand/walk for approximately 95% of the day.

Must be able to climb ladders frequently to complete construction of large crates.

Familiarity with measuring devices and hand tools is required.

Must have the ability to read drawings

Must be able to drive a forklift.

Most be able to work as a team and change job direction as needed

Able to read, write, and comprehend English.

Ability to use basic hand and power tools.

Must be able to work overtime when needed.
